Diagnostics of metal pipeline state by ground magnetometry

Examination of corrosion-dangerous sections of pipelines is carried out by contactless magnetometric diagnostics. The magnetometric method allows to localize the sites of the intense deformed condition of metal of the pipeline caused by various damages including corrosion.

Examination is conducted without change of the technological modes of pipelines operation.

Contactless magnetometric diagnostics is carried out in accordance with the regulations of RD 12-411-01 and RD 102-008-2002.

Advantages of the method:

• is considered as a contactless method of diagnostics;
• high possibility of detection of corrosion or other defects of metal of pipelines;
• high speed of examination (up to 2 km/h);
• possibility to carry out the examination in winter;
• exact detection of place of pipeline damage.

Examination results

For processing of results of control and identification of sites of the pipelines working in the most intense conditions the software product MMP−Sistema (Energodiagnostika) is used.

After the reset of information from the memory unit of the device the analysis of inspection results is running on the PC by viewing magnetograms on the screen in separate files and comparing the nature of their changes in frequency and amplitude, the size of the pipeline and the characteristics of the route, revealed during the examination.

After processing of results of control and their analysis the conclusion with the indication of pipelines sites with zones of the maximum concentration of tension is made. There are recommendations with indication of place for open test pit for further control by contact methods.

The report of examination is attached to a conclusion. It includes indications of places of the maximum concentration of tension of the pipeline.
